Premiere of New Work at Music & Beyond
27.05. 2015

The Capital Chamber Choir will premiere a new work titled The Delight of Paradise at this year’s Music & Beyond Festival in Ottawa. A seven-movement cycle, this new piece is a setting of Ode 13 from the Odes of Solomon, a little-known collection of sacred poetry similar in style to the psalms.

This new work got its start in 2012 with the premiere of My Heart Was Cloven by the Ottawa Bach Choir. This piece, premiered at Podium 2012, set the first two verses of Ode 13:

My Heart Was Cloven is the first of seven movements in The Delight of Paradise; the remaining newly composed sections set the remaining 19 verses. The composition of this extended piece was made possible by the Canada Council for the Arts and the City of Ottawa.
