About Nicholas Piper

Nicholas Piper (M. Mus.) is a composer, singer and choral director in Ottawa, Ontario. Formerly a resident of Victoria, British Columbia, he earned a Master’s Degree in Musical Composition from the University of Victoria (2010), studying with Dániel Biró. His graduating work, Locus Iste, won first prize in the 2010 SOCAN Awards for Young Composers. Nicholas is a native of Ottawa where he completed a Bachelor of Music in Composition and Musicology at Carleton University (2007). His compositions have been performed across Canada: in Montréal by Voces Boreales, Vancouver by Musica Intima, Edmonton by Pro Coro Canada, and in Ottawa by the Cantiamo Girls’ Choir, Capital Chamber Choir, Christ Church Cathedral Girls’ Choir and Ottawa Bach Choir. International performances have taken place in New York and Oslo, Norway. An award-winning composer, his work has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Ottawa and SSHRC. Nicholas is Director of Music at St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, Ottawa, and past-President of Ottawa New Music Creators.
